2025 ICSS Conference Keynote Speaker Announcement
The Iowa Council of Social Studies is pleased to announce that Dr. Karen Korematsu will be our Keynote Speaker at our Fall Conference on Monday, October 20th.
Dr. Karen Korematsu is the Founder and President of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute and the
daughter of the late civil rights icon, Fred Korematsu. Since her father’s passing in 2005, Karen
has carried on his legacy as a national public speaker and educator, traveling throughout the
country advocating for civil liberties, social justice, civics, and ethnic studies education.
Her message encompasses Fred’s story, legal history, the relevance of his case to today’s issues
and the promotion of Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution on January 30th
in perpetuity for all fifty states.
2025 ICSS Conference
Apply to Present at the 2025 ICSS Conference:
As the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence approaches, ICSS is excited to share the 2025's conference theme as "Social Studies: Shaping the Future Since 1776." We are asking for proposals to present at our annual conference which will be held on Monday, October 20th at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Proposals are due by April 30, 2025 and presenters will be notified of their acceptance by the end of May.
There are 2 types of presentations you can propose:
1. Innovation Idea: These are short presentations where presenters share a resource, idea, or activity. (1-2 minutes maximum per presentation).
2. Breakout Session: These 30 or 50 minute long presentations allow presenters to go into depth about a more specific topic.
